Lee Moo-Suk
Abstract
Every stress situation jeopardizes the family balance and therefore the well-being of its members. Stress, whether it stems from the malfunctioning of the family, loss, disaster or handicap, puts an excessive demand on the family resources. The family mobilizes mechanisms to ameliorate the threat or to immunize itself against it. As a living organism, the family creates its unique coping styles. In order to help the family cope stresses effectively, the authors reviewed several concepts of family therapy, such as basic aspects of stresses, crisis in the family, family life cycle, systemic approach to family organization and scapegoating.
